The Mutton Birds

How the mutton birds squeal when he
Pulls them from the soil dark burrow

Crack

With a flick of the wrist and they
Change hands into the bunch of warm
Downy bodies he holds in hand.
He sorts them by the grey tin shed

Bang

Skull crushed against the metal drum
Bang every two seconds or so.
Bang bang a double blow for this
To ensure there has been a death.
