A Year to the Day

The motorway remains unforgiven.

A vixen and her mate are
punched across the hard shoulder.

A child on the wet verge
wrapped in a blanket
sits near a place where magpies fight
over a newborn chick in the leaves.

There's a kicked in car with the
concertina of a passenger
being stretchered out.

Redemption is a journey
to some place
a long way away.
